What is Workplace Diversity and Why it Matters for Employees

Have you heard that many IT MNCs are giving job opportunities to women returnees after a career break?

Do you know IT MNCs are open to hiring LGBTQ people and LGBTQ job fairs have also started occurring in India?

Do cognitive and lifestyle-diversified individuals work in your team, leading to an interesting influx of ideas?

Above all the examples of workplace diversity in an organization. Gen Z and Millennials are particularly sensitive to these issues. A few Publicis Sapient company reviews on Glassdoor also talk about LGBTQ policies and hiring women.

Why should you encourage diversity in your company?

  1. Feel good factor and the positive influx of hormones: As a result of a good deed done, your work productivity increases along with a positive outlook.
  2. Inclusive products, designed for everyone by everyone: Suppose you want to make your application inclusive for people with disabilities. To ensure the design is inclusive and caters to the daily problems of users, you need to have a PWD in your team during the design phase to discuss requirements in the best possible way.
  3. The future of work is inclusion and equality: More jobs will focus on teams where diverse people management skills and domain knowledge in futuristic trends matter.
  4. Better job opportunities: While working with diverse teams, you may encounter some unique issues for the first time. These issues will enrich your expertise, broaden your people management skills and create a stronger job profile. It will in turn enable career growth internally/externally.

Let's talk about Diversity in the Publicis Sapient way:

In all employee referral emails, people get the subtle message of referring diverse candidates. It may look like a show but let me give you an example.

  • I have a small team of 15 members, where people work from Bangalore and Gurgaon office locations.
  • People from different ethnicities, castes and religions work together cohesively as a single unit.
  • Some people have come from different previous industries bringing in cross-industry experience.
  • On one of the birthday celebrations, everyone wished in their regional dialect along with their kids. It was an impromptu celebration with emotional bonding.
  • Recently, a transgender person and a person with a disability have joined my extended team. It has been a wonderful experience so far.

For me, irrespective of office locations, Publicis Sapient has an open work culture. I am a little biased about Publicis Sapient Bangalore's work culture. Bangalore being the IT hub, has people with more opportunities and experiences.
