I always dreamt of achieving Rs. 10 LPA salary packages within 3 years of my job. It was a far-fetched dream as most of the IT organizations offered an average salary of Rs. 3-4 LPA in my college in campus placement. When I got selected as a System Engineer for TCS in campus placements, my salary was just Rs. 3.5 LPA.
But now, I have achieved my dream and I am a senior Data Scientist in Publicis Sapient Bangalore with Rs. 10.5 LPA. Now I want to continue working here and boost my career to the next level.
How I did it?
I followed the below
steps while chasing my dream:
- I researched and talked with different college seniors
to know what skills will be ‘hot’ in future. The answer I got: Python and Data
Science.
- So, I started learning Python through online tutorials
on YouTube. Then I did some paid certifications to get advanced knowledge
from Coursera like IBM's Applied Data Science and Deeplearning.ai’s Deep
Learning Certification.
- I participated in hackathons for data scientists like
TechGig and trained a lot of Machine Learning models during my free time.
- I started giving interviews for the Data Scientist
position after 2 years of work experience.
- I had read in a Sapient Bangalore feedback, that the pay scale
is flexible for people having the right skills and project fit in Publicis
Sapient. This gave me confidence that my dream is achievable.
- I was rejected in many interviews based on my salary
expectations, but I did not lose confidence. I kept my confidence and
attitude up!
- Finally, I was selected in Publicis Sapient as a Senior
Associate Data Scientist.
Yeah! Many of my
friends thought I was out of my mind.
According to them, I
needed to do MTech from IIT or MBA from IIM to increase my salary faster. But
I had a clear picture in my mind. To crack IIT or IIM, I need 1 year of
preparation, 2 years of studying. So, it was the same timeline.
The above is not a Publicis Sapient company review, this is more of how to fast-forward your career timeline. I did mine by getting a job with triple salary. Yours can be quite different!
